Primary Sedimentation Tank Rehabilitation

This project upgraded the process equipment and tanks used for primary sedimentation of municipal wastewater at Silicon Valley Clean Water’s wastewater treatment plant. As the first stage of treatment to the incoming wastewater, the four primary sedimentation tanks were over 35 years old and required rehabilitation.

Work included the removal of existing primary sludge and scum collection equipment, removal of all existing surface coatings, replacement of the existing mechanisms inside of the tanks including their associated motor drives and concrete anchoring systems, repairs to concrete and preparation of surfaces for coating, application of protective coatings to the tank structures, and installation of new primary sludge and scum collection equipment including monitoring sensors with associated instrumentation and electrical work. Commissioning and training was completed for all new equipment.
