Centrifuge Building Improvements

This project consists of improvements to the sludge conveyance system at the Alvarado Wastewater Treatment Plant. It addresses the operation and maintenance challenges of the existing shafted screw conveyors which have bearings that are no longer in production, are custom-made for the District, and wear out and fail on a regular basis.

Improvements include the replacement of existing horizontal and incline shafted screws from two horizontal and inclined conveyors in the Centrifuge Building. It also includes the shortening of two horizontal trough sections which will be installed at a lower elevation for reuse in new conveyance system and the extension of two inclined trough sections to match new horizontal conveyor elevation. Additional project components consist of the installation of liners into the new and existing trough sections, installation of shaftless screws, and replacement of associated conveyor supports, gearbox, drive units, wiring and controls.
