48-inch Force Main reliability improvements Project

As part of SVCW’s overall $425 million Capital Improvement Program (CIP) this set of projects replaced several miles of an existing leaking force main. The existing pipeline was constructed of reinforced, single gasket, tongue & groove, concrete pipe set in the Young Bay Mud along the southern San Francisco Bay Peninsula. Due to the type of material used and the unstable soil conditions, the existing pipeline had leaked in several locations causing much frustration and worry for the Authority. The total pipeline replacement was originally divided into four (4) Units for ease of permitting, easement acquisition and bidding.
